Acupuncture
Acupuncture originated in China over 5,000 years ago and involves the use of fine needles inserted into specific points on the body, face and head that correspond with acupoints based on the meridian lines as mapped out in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The underlying principle behind this practice is to help the universal life energy or 'Qi' (pronounced chee), flow freely in and around the body to nourish and help maintain a state of homeostasis.
When Qi is out of balance a person can exhibit signs of illness, disease, pain or emotional disturbance. By thoroughly analysisng the lifestyle and medical history of a person it is possible to identify how best to treat them, to ensure that certain problems do not reoccur. Others may choose to use acupuncture to strengthen immunity during the winter months to ward off seasonal ailments.
Acupuncture is commonly used for the following conditions (this list is not exhaustive):
- Pain
- Musculoskeletal problems
- Emotional disturbances
- Stress/Anxiety

- Menstrual issues
